PREVIOUS RULERS OF FINIMA TO PRESENT DAY

The rulership of Finima Town and it environs before British Administration’s arrival, had been in the following order;
1. KONGO about 1380AD
2. IPUO
3. NGOGO
4. KALAIPUO
5. SUONIA
6. WOLO
7. BUO
-circa 1699
    The above was prior to the creation of the modern-day Chieftaincy stool as it is today, in Ibani (Bonny) kingdom during the reign of Omuso, the son of Buo.
After Omuso's reign (1760-1810), reigned the following chiefs in succession,

  • Chief Omoni Jack Brown – (1820-1878)
    (1st son of Omuso)
    “The Governor of Finima” as he was known by the Early European Explorers was credited with a long and purposeful reign –see Chronicle of Grand Bonny by Fombo & Allagoa - pages 46,64-65
     
  • Chief William Waribo (Abobo) Brown – (1879-1913)
    (1st son of Omoni-Jack Brown)
                (A Trained pharmacist in Dublin, Ireland)
     
  •  Chief John Green Owupele Brown- (1913-1933)
               (1st Commoner to rule Finima, His reign was considered an interregnum /Caretaker)
     
  • Chief Thomas Berepelebo Brown- 1934-1936
                (2nd son of Omoni Jack Brown, Governor of Finima)
     
  • The Rt Hon. Chief Henry Buowari-Brown, OBE - 1936-1959
                (1st son of William Abobo Brown)
     Probably the most illustrious son of Finima to reign in recent times, Former member of Colonial Parliament representing Oil Rivers, whose creation from the old Owerri province he spearheaded, Delegate to several pre-independence constitutional conferences for Nigeria and the Commonwealth. Renowned Journalist and lawmaker, Awarded OBE by Queen of England for meritorious services to the Commonwealth and Nigeria
     
  • Chief Maxwell Adango Allwell Brown J.P (MBE) -1962-1965
               (Another illustrious son of the lineage.Grandson of William Abobo Brown) who also received the MBE award for meritorious service to the country.
     
  • Chief Israel Amabara Idamiebi Brown – (1970-1992 *)
    1st Finima son to serve as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice,Rivers State.
    A renowned legal practitioner and Elder statesman 2nd Commoner to ascend the throne, Reign also considered an interregnum.
     
  • Chief Dr. Asamayibo Henry Buowari –Brown
    Private medical practitioner, Present Chief/Head of Finima
    6th April 1996- date
    Incumbent Paramount Ruler of Finima
    (1st Grand son of Rt. Hon Henry Buowari-Brown, OBE)

    *There is currently a peace move following a protracted rulership dispute arising over the stool since 1992 when Chief Idamiebi Brown was de- stooled and the present incumbent installed in 1996. As a result of this dispute, Finima has not enjoyed the development and advancement a host community of several multi-national companies ought to enjoy. The move will likely see a co-operation between the two Chiefs for peace in the overall interest of the community.
